Holmes Mrs Christine Elizabeth (nee Ball)

Christine Holmes passed away on the 10th December 2004.

Christine arrived at Fairbridge, Molong in June 1939, she was just 8yrs old.

This was the fourth party to arrive at the Farm School. 14 other children came with her. The ship was the SS Orontes.

Christine visited Bob Stephens and family later in her life, and Bob has fond memories of her.

Christine has a grandaughter, Jessica, who will attempt to put Christine”s story into book form.

Margaret Humphries found Christine”s family in 1988, but unfortunately they rejected her once again.

Christine had 10 brothers and sisters, but lost her mother in 1982, when she was 52.  She had previously been told that her mother had died in a car crash when she was small.  Christine also never found her father.  She had been in an orphanage after a relationship breakdown between the parents. She was then fostered out to another family, but because of legal complications she was returned to the orphanage. Christine was then sent out to  Australia. She was scalded anytime she said her surname that she knew herself by, and was told to go back to having her original surname of Ball.

This information was provided by Jessica the granddaughter.

About The Phantom

Came to Fairbridge Molong in 1957 and began immediately as a farm trainee. I was 15 yrs old. I loved the work, but found it very lonely and the bullying was awful. Billy Gelson saved me many times in Orange cottage from beatings. I loved this man. I have had a successful life with a wife who died in 2003. I have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. Life has been a challenge since Maureen died.. Brian K OF
