The White Tunnel. By Nyasa Holmes. (nee Woods)

This incident happened in the days when we all used to swim up at the Hudson dam at the Fairbridge Farm Molong.

I do not remember it well being only 6 or 7 yrs of age at the time. We were in a fenced off area for non swimmers and Rosy Bates and myself got out of our depth. I can remember Rosie clinging to me and dragging me down. I am sure we were both near to losing consciousness, as I can remember the White Tunnel experience of near death.

However one of the older boys came along and we both grabbed hold of him, he rescued us. I think we nearly drowned him  in our panic. I never really knew who that boy was. He would have to be in his mid to late 70″s by now, as i am 70.

If you are out there oh gallant gentleman, I would like to express my thanks for saving both our lives. Not sure that even my mother Ruth Woods was aware of the incident.

You are my hero.  Nyasa Holmes.

About The Phantom

Came to Fairbridge Molong in 1957 and began immediately as a farm trainee. I was 15 yrs old. I loved the work, but found it very lonely and the bullying was awful. Billy Gelson saved me many times in Orange cottage from beatings. I loved this man. I have had a successful life with a wife who died in 2003. I have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. Life has been a challenge since Maureen died.. Brian K OF
