Smith Ian George Haylings Emslie ( Scotty )

Ian Smith passed away at the Molong District Hospital, from Pneumonia  on the 10th November 1996.  Ian was born on the 15th November 1928.

Ian came to Fairbridge Molong in the 1st party in March 1938. This was a party of 28 boys. The ship was the SS Orama.

Ian also served with the Australian Regular Army in the 2nd World War and Korea.

Scotty was born in 1928 and was 68 when he died. He is buried in the Fairbridge section of the Molong Cemetery.

About The Phantom

Came to Fairbridge Molong in 1957 and began immediately as a farm trainee. I was 15 yrs old. I loved the work,but found it very lonely and the bullying was awful. Billy Gelson saved me many times in Orange cottage from beatings. I loved this man. I have had a successful life with a wife who died in 2003. I have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. Life has been a challenge since Maureen died.. Brian K OF
